Context: This project was designed and completed while I was working at Hooper Shiles Architects. A former public school building c.1955, complete with asbestos and water and mold infiltration. The building had been abandoned for approximately 5 years prior to renovation. |
Idea: This project included a full renovation of the existing facility and complete reconstruction of one classroom wing. To meet the school's aggressive schedule to design and complete the project in just under a year, Hooper Shiles Architects worked with Quandel as a construction manager to coordinate ten separate multiple prime bid contractors.
The building shell was renovated and restored to provide energy efficiency and reduce heat-loss, the building systems were upgraded for further cost-savings, and new finishes and playful elements were provided to create a sense of way-finding and liveliness for the children. |
